As was reported recently throughout the media and highlighted in the entry “FDA Head of Medical Devices Resigns; Controversy Highlights Need for Passage of Medical Device Safety Act” on our companion blog on the Medtronic Heart Lead recall, Dr. Daniel Schultz resigned from his post as the head of the FDA’s medical devices division.
In early 2009, several scientists wrote to political leaders including President Obama noting they felt there was “systemic corruption and wrongdoing that permeates all levels of FDA,” putting the safety of Americans at risk, including corruption within the FDA’s medical device approval process.
