Reglan’s Dangerous Side Effect: Tardive Dyskinesia
Print This Post
Reglan is a prescription drug, often sold in generic form, used to treat gastrointestinal problems, reflux and nausea. It recommended only for short term treatment (less than 12 weeks) and only in adults. Yet, many patients are prescribed Reglan for longer periods and it is also prescribed to children.
Reglan has been linked to Tardive Dyskinesia (TD), a neurological disorder which can include involuntary spasms and movements. TD has no cure and TD patients often suffer from depression. In lawsuits filed against Reglan drug manufacturers, patients who developed TD allege that the manufacturer failed to adequately warn physicians and patients of the link between Reglan and TD.
